Marine Conservation Institute is dedicated to securing permanent, strong protection for the oceans’ most important places – for us and future generations.
Actions:
Science & Data:
Through MPAtlas, we assess MPAs worldwide using a science-based framework (the “MPA Guide”) to determine both stage of establishment and protection level.
Our data is public / open-access (e.g., MPAtlas data downloadable) for research, policy, and conservation planning.
Advocacy & Policy:
We Advocate for stronger marine protections, working with governments, communities, and international bodies.
We push for global conservation targets like “30x30” (i.e., protecting at least 30% of the ocean by 2030).
Protected Area Recognition:
Blue Parks: we award MPAs that meet their very high standards of protection and management.
We support and monitor MPAs to ensure they are effective, not just “on paper.”
Youth & Community Engagement:
We run programs / partnerships to support youth advocates for ocean protection.
We work with local communities, scientists, governments, and NGOs to build marine protection.
